She was born 31st January 1975 and when she went into the film industry her film roles along with her screen persona contributed to a change in the concept of a Hindi film heroine.

Preity Zinta is a very versatile Bollywood actress who has worked on movies in various languages which include Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu and English. Her debut film was in Dil Se alongside Shahruk Khanbut for only about 20 minutes as his temporary love interest. She accompanied a friend who was auditioning for a role in a movie and she was asked whether she wanted to audition too, and she went along with it. After the audition she was advised by Shekhar Kapur to go into acting, thus getting the role in Dil Se. Although the movie was not a box office hit, Preity Zinta's acting skills were noticed by film producers which opened up many doors for her.

Her acting skills in Dil Se earned her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award nomination and so her career in acting started to blossom.

Preity Zinta earned a post graduate degree in Criminal Psychology after leaving boarding school but she decided to go into modelling. Her first screen time was in an advert on television for a brand of chocloate called Perk Chocolates. The director of the commercial persuaded Preity Zinta to audition for the commercial and so she did, which then took her onto other things like magazines, other commercials and Liril soap adverts.

Preity Zinta's acting career really took off from the year 2000 after she had the main role in the film Kya Kehna which a surprising box office success. From there she went on to act in lead roles in films including:

She supported a cause to donate blood which was organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi and the Godfrey Phillips Awards from which she also promoted womens empowerment.
